A DARK-SKY INSTALLATION • MAUI, HAWAII

Because we were made to wonder.

Why the MAV?

The MAV is my answer to a question: What would be the best way to feel the night sky?

Stargazing has been, for me a meditative activity.

Modern Astronomy as Shared Experience

Stargazing has always been a shared human experience. Long before modern travel or technology, people gathered under the night sky to wonder, orient themselves, and connect—with the cosmos and with each other.

Ultimate Stargazing brings that tradition to modern astronomy. The MAV transforms viewing from a solitary activity into an intimate, shared encounter—designed not for experts, but for all human beings who want to feel something extraordinary beneath the stars.

An Observatory Designed Around the Human Body

The MAV was designed with a single focus: to make each observer comfortable enough to be fully present in the view. When the body is relaxed and the experience feels effortless, distractions fade away. What remains is deeper focus, greater clarity, and the ability to truly see more of the night sky.

Smooth, continuous motion designed to keep attention on the sky.

Natural Viewing at 42x Magnification

The MAV’s optics are tuned for brightness, clarity and comfort. A wide, flat field delivers a view that feels natural and undistorted, while a lower magnification brings detail forward without narrowing the experience. The result is an image that fills the eye and quietly disappears into the act of seeing.

(The number is purely coincidental, of course.)

“It feels like being in a spaceship.”

Reclined side by side, attention naturally shifts away from the world below. The body is supported, the field of view is filled, and the motion is smooth and continuous. With nothing demanding effort, the experience becomes immersive and focused, oriented entirely toward the sky.

What makes the experience unique is not isolation, but shared presence. You and the person beside you are aligned to the same view, moving together through the night sky, creating the quiet sense of traveling outward—together.
